Threats to Life, Families and Religious Liberty from the Virginia General Assembly 2025

2025 opens with organized attacks on life, religious liberty and parental authority.

The General Assembly Voted to Take what is God’s and Give it to Caesar

With slim majorities in the House of Delegates (51D – 49R) and Senate (21D-19R) of the Virginia General Assembly, left-wing ideologues are not wasting any time in pushing through an agenda that is contrary to God’s Law.  Christ proclaimed, “Give back to Caesar what is Caesar’s and to God what is God’s.” Mk 12:17. Life and Marriage are God’s!

VA Democrats vote to enshrine radical abortion policy

In 1984, a pregnant teen client told me she thought she couldn’t get pregnant because her boyfriend said, “his fallopian tubes were tied.”  At least in 1984, I didn’t wonder if it was the Fairfax student or Family Life Education (FLE) teacher who got it wrong!

Nanny Stella’s Big Heart

In 2021, it is widely understood that Terry McAuliffe, national Democrat star, lost the governor’s race to an unknown businessman because of his arrogant comments that” we can’t have parents dictating what is taught to children in public schools.”  It became a political issue because the abuses and radical policies of school boards were exposed in Arlington, Fairfax and Loudoun County schools.  Senator Stella Pekarsky was Fairfax School Board Chair during McAuliffe’s campaign.  She has chosen to follow in his footsteps and brought her contempt of parents to Richmond with a rash of “education” bills.  Is her main target of her Home-schooling bill an attack on competition to public schools or on persons of religious faith?

Do all Democrats Hate School Choice?

In addition to supporting Senator Stella Pekarsky’s bill to remove the religious exemption for home schooling, (that has now morphed into a bill to create a “study group”, appointed by Democrat leadership in the House of Delegates and Senate, to come up with a rationale and recommendation to remove the exemption, but only after spending a lot of taxpayer money), the Democrats also oppose any positive movements to allow parents to have choice in education. If Governor Youngkin wasn’t so fiscally responsible, he should call their bluff and agree to give poor families whatever it would take to rescue their children from the toxic, failing public schools.

Many of the Abuses in Schools begin in the General Assembly

Every seat in the Virginia House of Delegates is up for election in 2025. Unfortunately, the Senate was elected to 6-year terms in 2023, so we are stuck with the Senate we have for 4 more years.

These are critical positions. The Transgender policies that became entrenched in Fairfax Schools began with legislation in the General Assembly during Governor Northam’s tenure. It was also during this period that common-sense protections on abortion were repealed: such as requiring informed consent before an abortion, requiring safety regulations for abortion facilities, denying taxpayer funds to be used for abortions, etc.
